The new policy means the end of sex-selective abortions, because many Chinese couples preferred to have a boy over a girl.

To that policy, a Chinese economics professor had a solution: allow women to marry more than one man and legalize same-sex marriage.

Now this is no longer necessary.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, there are 700 million men to 667 million women. In 2014, there were 115.88 boys born for every 100 girls. A normal gender ratio is 103 to 107 boys to every 100 girls.

By 2020, there will be 30 million unmarried men in China, also known as guanggun, or “bare branches.”
