Sakharov Prize for Raif Badawi — An Appeal to Justin Trudeau to Take the Next Step

Source: Newsweek Polska, October 30

Raif BadawiLast week the EU Parliament awarded the Sakharov Prize to Saudi Arabian writer, activist and blogger Raif Badawi who was sentenced in 2014 to ten years in prison and 1,000 lashes.

“At least for a brief moment this news will draw the world’s attention to human rights violations in Saudi Arabia. For the past 70 years the Saudi kingdom has been an ally of the Western world in the Middle East. That’s why the West turns a blind eye to the regime’s cruelty and medieval legal practices….

Now it’s time for the next step.

The EU heads of government, EU Council President Tusk, US President Obama and the new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau must put pressure on the Saudi king to free Badawi and let him emigrate to Canada where his wife and three children are waiting for him.”

    Yes indeed.
    Absolutely.
